LOS ANGELES, Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the San Francisco Giants 7-2 on Tuesday night to force a crucial Game 5 in their National League Division Series. Mookie Betts homered and drove in three runs, while Will Smith also hit a home ball.
On Thursday night, the 107-win Giants take on the 106-win Dodgers, with the winner going to the NL Championship Series against Atlanta. The Braves defeated the Brewers earlier in the day on Tuesday.

In a 1-0 loss in Game 3 — their second shutout loss — the Dodgers mustered just five hits, putting the reigning World Series champions on the verge of elimination. They had as many by the second inning Tuesday, and they banged out a total of 12 to support Walker Buehler’s short but efficient performance on three days’ rest.

Buehler approached manager Dave Roberts after the Dodgers’ 9-2 win in Game 2 and expressed his desire to pitch Game 4 on short rest for the first time in his career. In 4 1/3 innings, the right-hander allowed one run and three hits. On 71 pitches, he struck out four batters and walked two.
Buehler left to a standing ovation from 52,935 blue towel-waving fans after giving up a leadoff single to Evan Longoria and walking pinch-hitter Steven Duggar.
In the second, the Dodgers chased Giants starter Anthony DeSclafani. He struck out two batters while allowing two runs and five hits.
By the fifth inning, the Giants had used up six pitchers and were down to only three relievers. Only backup catcher Curt Casali was available off the bench by the seventh inning. In the ninth inning, he pinch-hit.

The stinging, constant wind of Game 3 had died away, leaving just a little breeze to flutter the center-field flags.
Smith extended the advantage to 7-2 with a two-run homer to center in the eighth inning.
Betts hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning, and his bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the fifth scored Cody Bellinger for a 5-1 advantage.
Darin Ruf’s RBI groundout off Joe Kelly in the top of the fifth inning and Kris Bryant’s RBI groundout in the eighth inning drove home the Giants’ runs. Buster Posey, the All-Star catcher, has had a stellar career. In the playoffs, he went 0 for 4 as a 257 hitter.
When Buehler’s homer went off reliever Jarlin Garcia’s leg for an error in the fourth, he was safe at first. Betts followed with a two-run home drive to the right-field pavilion, putting the game out of reach at 4-0.

In the first inning, the Dodgers took the lead on Trea Turner’s RBI double to right-center that rolled to the wall, scoring Corey Seager, who had singled.
In the second, Chris Taylor’s sacrifice fly made it 2-0.
In the second, Bryant and LaMonte Wade Jr. both hit one-out singles to put runners on the corners for San Francisco. Buehler, on the other hand, escaped the jam by retiring Longoria on a swinging strike and Mike Yastrzemski on a liner to second.
The Dodgers were 3-0 in elimination games last season, recovering from a 3-1 deficit to win the NLCS against Atlanta.

reliever for the Los Angeles Dodgers Brusdar Graterol pitched the sixth inning, hitting 101 mph on six of his seven pitches. Only Bryant reached on an infield single to first base, as he retired three of four hitters. Posey, pinch-hitter Wilmer Flores, and Longoria were all retired on groundouts by Graterol.

When a spectator wound up on the warning track in the right-field corner, the game was delayed momentarily to begin the eighth inning. The intruder was handcuffed and taken away by several security officers.
